Dorchester County Probate Judge
Tiffany Provence

Tiffany Provence was born in Montgomery, Alabama. She was raised in
Summerville, South Carolina since birth where she lived with her mother, Linda
Messervy, and step-father, James H. Messervy. She comes from a long line of
public officials as both parents have held elected offices in Dorchester County.
Judge Provence graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in
Telecommunications. While at UF, she was the President of Chi Omega Sorority,
and a member of the prestigious Blue Key Honor Society. After working on her
master's degree in Public Administration, she decided to attend law school at
USC, where she graduated in 1998. While in law school, she participated in the
National Moot Court Team and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.
During and after graduating from law school, Judge Provence worked for Senator
Ernest F. Hollings as Deputy Finance Director for his campaign. She then
returned from Columbia to fill the un-expired Probate Court term of Judge William
Wylie in July 1998. Judge Provence was reelected to her first full term in office in
January 2001.
Since accepting the position of Probate Judge, she has volunteered her time to
many worthwhile causes. Judge Provence serves on the Mental Health
Committee within the Probate Judges Association, and also locally through her
Community Mental Health Board. She devotes much of her free time to the
homeless animals of Dorchester County through her work for the Frances
Willis
SPCA, where she serves on the Board of Directors and has held
numerous
Executive Board positions. Judge Provence also remains
active with the local bar
where she has served as co-coordinator for
1999 Young Lawyer's Law Week,
and
currently holds the position of
Secretary for the Dorchester County Bar.
Judge Provence is married
to
Christopher D. Nisbet, Coroner for
Dorchester
County. They currently
reside in Summerville and
have one son and a daughter.
